Where Does PAFTAO™ Fit? 7 Risk Points Where You Should Install a Fire Suppressing Patch
A compilation of electrical risk areas in homes and offices ideal for installing PAFTAO™, along with a simple guide to choosing the right installation spots
7 Risk Points to Consider for PAFTAO™ to Improve Safety and Reduce Fire Risk
We use electrical equipment every day, whether at home, in the office, in shops, in factories or in any area with lots of electrical equipment. See more details at Choosing fire protection equipment to suit your area and risk.
Small spots like power outlets, sockets, power strips and light switches may deserve attention in fire protection planning. If abnormal heat or a fire occurs there, having a device that helps stop the fire at its earliest stage is one more way to add safety. Learn more at Elements of Fire.
The PAFTAO™ Fire Suppressing Patch is designed to be installed at these risk points. It can be used with power outlets, sockets, plugs, switches and areas at risk of small fires. See another fire suppression patch at PAFPlast™ Fire Extinguishing Patch.
This article covers 7 risk points that are suitable for considering PAFTAO™.
What Is PAFTAO™?
PAFTAO™ is a small fire suppressing patch designed to be installed at risk points such as power outlets, sockets, plugs, power strips and light switches.
The product uses PAF microcapsules and contains PAF-222 FK-5-1-12 Clean Agent fire suppression agent. Read more at What is PAF-222 and What is FK5112 / What is FK-5-1-12.
When the temperature reaches the activation range of 110 to 130°C, the device works automatically and releases the fire suppression agent. Fire suppression time is about 3 to 5 seconds.
PAFTAO™ is a supplementary device that helps stop a fire from spreading at its earliest stage. It is not a primary fire suppression device and cannot replace fire extinguishers or standard fire protection systems. See the difference at How PAFTAO™ Differs from Fire Extinguishers.
4 Risk Points to Consider for PAFTAO™
Point 1: Power Outlets and Sockets
Small spots where electrical devices are used every day
Power outlets and sockets are found in almost every building, and devices are plugged in and unplugged all the time.
This makes them one of the spots where PAFTAO™ can be considered to add a layer of protection at that point.
It can be installed on plugs, sockets or outlets, between or at the center of the plug holes.
Suitable for:
Home sockets
Office sockets
Device plug points
Sockets in work areas
Spots with regular electrical use
Point 2: Power Strips
Power points that often have several devices connected at once
Power strips add more outlets for users, so they are common in homes, offices, shops and work areas.
To add protection at this point, PAFTAO™ can be installed at a suitable spot on the power strip, following the product instructions.
The product information covers installation on plugs with 2 or 3 holes and recommends placing it between or at the center of the plug holes.
Suitable for:
Office power strips
Power points for computers
Desks
Areas where many types of devices are connected
Key point
PAFTAO™ does not replace choosing a quality power strip or using the electrical system correctly. It is a supplementary device that adds a layer of protection.
Point 3: Light Switches
Another spot where you can add protection
Light switches are common in buildings and are one of the spots where PAFTAO™ can be used.
Choose a position that suits the switch and the area, clean the surface before installing, and follow the product instructions.
Suitable for:
· Indoor light switches
· Office switches
· Electrical control points
· Areas that need extra protection at specific points
Point 4: Power Points for Office Equipment
Small spots where many types of devices are used
Today's offices have a lot of electrical equipment, such as:
Computers
Monitors
Printers
Network equipment
Chargers
Other office equipment
All of this equipment connects to the electrical system through plugs and sockets.
So power points that serve many devices are another area where PAFTAO™ can be considered to add a layer of protection at that point. See more details at Fire Extinguishers for Data Centers / Server Rooms / Electrical Rooms.
PAFTAO™ does not replace a standard electrical system or primary fire protection equipment. It adds one more layer of protection. Read more at Clean Agent Fire Extinguishers and Fire Suppression Systems for MDB Cabinets and Control Panels.
Simple Rules for Choosing Where to Install PAFTAO™
When installing PAFTAO™, don't just ask:
"Where can it go?"
Instead, ask:
"Where is the risk, and where is it suitable to install?"
You can use a simple 4 step approach:
1. Survey
Find the spots with electrical equipment or power points.
2. Assess
Decide which spots are at risk and need more protection. Learn more at Fire extinguishing equipment laws for buildings.
3. Choose
Pick the positions where PAFTAO™ can be installed properly.
4. Install
Clean the surface, peel off the adhesive liner and install following the product instructions.
